Maria Longworth Nichols Rookwood Pottery Jug

Designed as an ovular Spanish jug with spout and mouth, and a broad strap handle above, impressed with bands of geometric designs to top, shoulder and foot, these with freckled light gilt enamel. Centering a broad band painted in muted polychrome enamels with two dancing bee like insects over grasses, the verso with a single black spider, on splotchy clouds of green, brown and white. The spout and everted mouth also freckled with gilt enamel.
To underside, incised M/L/N, ROOKWOOD/1883, G 41
Approximate dimensions: 9 1/2 H..
Condition: Very good condition overall, minimal surface wear and losses to gilding and enamels.
