Yellow Gold Ring with George Washingtons Hair.

The yellow gold ring with rectangular setting, black enamel centers woven with 6 strands of George Washingtons hair.
The hair is accompanied by a letter detailing how this ring came to be. In short, the letter states GW gave a lock of hair to his godson Washington Stewart, the son of General Stewart of Philadelphia, who gave a portion to W. Desmond of Philadelphia, whose wife gave the letter writer 6 strands. The letter writer then took the strands to a jeweler to have the ring made. The signature to the letter appears to read Margaretta M. Hale and is dated Oct 3rd 1862.


This is also accompanied by a newspaper clipping detailing the sale of such ring at John Fiske Collection auction for 480 in 1913.
Condition: Minor wear and patina.
The ring tested at 14 karats.
