The fabric probably French.
Circa 1885.
Bodice with turquoise velvet trim to shoulders, neckline, down bodice front, and to waist, the fabric embellished with undulating metallic thread foliate designs. The bodice beaded and embroidered with gilt flowers, with pink chiffon pistils, and rhinestones. Bodice lining cotton, including padded breasts to either side of hooked front. The skirt decorated with a band of silvered and gilt beaded fringe near hem.
Approximate dimensions: 31 3/4 Bust, 20 Shoulder to waist. Skirt: 20 Waist, 52 1/2 L.

Condtion: Moderate condition. The fabric is quite fragile, with some shattering to the silk. Some restorations to underarm and waist areas, done by the museum. The embroidered is in lovely condition. Despite the condition issues, the fabric would make a great decorative feature, if wearing the garment is considered too much a risk.
