Circa 1830 - 1842.
The first, a pictorial sampler of fine wool on linen, centering Adam and Eve under a tree, birds, baskets of fruit, blooming flowers, etc., embroidered in vivid colors. Under glass, in giltwood frame.
The second, an unframed Northern Irish needlework sampler, wool on linen. Strawberry and vine border enclosing three alphabets and band of loops surrounding numerals 1 - 10. Over the poem: Were half the words thats vainly spent / To Heaven in suplication sent / Our cheerfull song would oftner be / Hear what the Lord hath done for me / Prayer makes the darkened cloud withdraw / Prayer climbs the ladder Jacob saw/ Gives exercise to faith and love / Brings every blessing from above. Over Agnes Hodge Dervock Female School July Anno Domini 18/42.
Approximate dimensions: 9 x 9 inches sight, 12 x 11 1/2 inches framed 17 x 15 the unframed example.
Minor discoloration, some loose threads stain and splotches lower center.
