Three Lace Mesh and Embroidered Dresses, Cocoon Wrap.
Lot: 105
An ocher 1930s sleeveless rayon crepe Flapper dress, of sheath design with pin tucks, lace inserts a 1940s close-fitting long sleeved dress made with blue embroidered machine-made lace mesh, and a Poiret-style lace cocoon wrap, made with black mesh lace, decorated with gilt-metal circles and with applied white ovals embroidered with a shepherdess feeding her birds.
Approximate dimensions: 31 1/2 Bust, 37 1/4 from Shoulders to hem, the sheath. Blue dress 29 Bust, 28 Waist, 52 from shoulder to hems.
Condition: The Flapper dress with minor stains. Tears to fabric at shoulders to the blue lace dress. The wrap, coming off of its satin ribbon, part of the neck overlaid with restoration net. Minor tear to one end. Some loose threads.
Notes: The cocoon dress made famous by Paul Poiret revolutionized the idea of the cut coat. This is a gauze over-garment, presumably for a velvet coat. Users today might consider this a very stylish and revealing night-dress.
