Comprising an .800 German silver inscribed presentation card box from Henry Irving to Edwin Booth with silhouette scene to cover mother of pearl veneer box with silver metal clad small silver mounted case with amber color stone or glass, mother of pearl cylindrical case with silver metal inlay.
Amber box with faded hallmarks. Presentation box with German hallmarks.
Approximate dimensions: Presentation box 3/4 high x 8 1/8 wide x 2 1/4 deep, mother of pearl box 1 1/2 high x 2 7/8 wide x 2 1/4 deep, cylindrical case 4 1/2 long, amber case 3 wide..
Provenance: from the Mr. Vito Giallo Collection, Chapter II.
Condition: Some wear throughout. Loss to silver clad pieces. Loss to mother of pearl on the mop box.
Notes: The two famed actors played in Othello against each other in May, 1881, in a production directed by Bram Stoker (author of Dracula), and with Ellen Terry playing Desdemona. The American star Edwin Booth sailed from New York to London, to star in Othello with the English actor Henry Irving. with the two leads changing roles between Othello and Iago.
