Provenance: Artist to the Ricker Family of Poland Spring Resort, PA, acquired by Rutgers Art History Professor Richard Durnin, Ledges Gallery, Rye Beach NH, purchased by a private collector then acquired by the current owner.
Notes: Additional elements provided by Doug Nelson, Founder of Ledges Galleries:
The painting was examined under ultraviolet light to see if there were restoration or additions made. Cleaning and touch up of minor losses were done. Pigment analysis and brushwork analysis were made to draw comparisons to artists known works. Materials framing are in line with the period and known geographic origin of the artists work.
The Ricker family owned the Poland Spring Inn and Water Company in Maine and held annual summer exhibitions of well known American European artists for many years. This painting came from the Ricker estate via the retired Rutgers Art History Professor Richard Durnin who was a friend and had a summer home in Norway, Maine. He focused his collection primarily on Maine works but picked up other things he came across. We have more from him in our collection.
