19th Century Naga Tribe Headhunter Warriors Authentic Head Taking Belt, Circa 1890.

Leather backed with hand carved bone spacers between each of the nine lost wax sand cast bronze heads organic rattan / sinew fiber is used to tie the belt together and employed to attach the brass pendents to the leather. The 9 brass heads represent 9 head hunting victims that were taken by the Naga headhunter warrior that wore this belt, signifying status, honor and wealth.
Collection catalogue number reads: 1054a, and a circular red David Howard Tribal Art seal on the back.
Approximate dimensions: 25 1/4 long x 3 inches high..
Parallels: Similar, albeit lesser, examples are illustrated in The Nagas, on pps. 254 and 260.
Condition: Patina to bronze, light surface wear, no apparent loss or repairs.
